M*A*S*H: The Comedy That Changed Television – A Review

M*A*S*H: The Comedy That Changed Television – A Review

Aired Earlier this month (a few days ago to be exact). This nearly 2 hour long special brings back all the surviving cast members of the landmark TV Series M*A*S*H (an acronym for Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) in which they discuss how the show changed the face of Television forever and spoke fondly about their time during filming. Also included in this special are Special Archival interviews never before aired of cast members who have passed on including:

  • Harry Morgan
  • William Christopher
  • Allan Arbus
  • MacLean Stevenson
  • Larry Linville
  • David Ogden Stiers
  • Wayne Rogers
  • Burt Metcalfe (Producer)
  • Gene Reynolds (Producer)
  • Larry Gelbart (Producer/Writer)

To say M*A*S*H was iconic would be an understatement, it’s mix of the horrors of war with comedy fond of practical jokes and revenge was what made viewers tune in every week back in it’s prime. I saw this show with my Grandparents in the later seasons and was hooked instantly. I am now proud to say that I own the complete series on DVD and will someday be showing this to my nephew so he can appreciate the hijinks of Hawkeye Pierce just as I did all those years ago when my Grandpa Joe showed it to me.

If you like Dramedies (which I think many will agree M*A*S*H was the first) give this show a whirl, it won’t be disappointing I can assure you. It paved the way for other shows of it’s kind including ER, Suits and Shameless among many others.
