The Weston’s name, like Schneiders is synonymous with the Kitchener-Waterloo Area. Opened in 1948 on sprawling real estate at 580 Victoria Street you always knew what part of town you were in when a rich mellow aroma of freshly baked products flowed into your nostrils. As a boy I recall that several of my friends used to sing a joke song every time we drove by this plant, it went something like this:
“Weston’s Bread, Is Made Of Lead if you eat too much then you’ll be dead”
(Author Unknown)
Looking back on it, I’m not sure what those guys were thinking when they sang that because as a health conscious eater I know for a fact that bread is not made of lead but that is the innocence of Childhood I guess.
